Fashion Finalist

Fresh off a well-received Spring 2022 catalogue, Art Weston has been chosen as a repeat finalist to design the school uniforms for the incoming freshman class at Cinniapolis Prep High School. Every year, new designs are submitted from local fashion houses to outfit the incoming class. Last year, Weston was passed over in favor of local legend, Yvonne Grey. “It means so much to me having grown up in Cinniapolis and being a graduate of Cinni Prep,” said Weston. What may be seen as a minuscule accomplishment outside of city limits, being named Cinniapolis Prep uniform designer is an esteemed honor locally.

Last year, Ms. Grey prioritized the uniform project over many other lucrative opportunities. “I feel a strong connection to the year 2025 and had a burning desire to participate in last year’s competition,” said Ms. Grey. Better known for her global brand, Yerg Fashion House (YFH), Ms. Grey declined national campaigns to design for the class of 2025. This inspired Mr. Weston to dust himself off after last year’s loss and return for this year’s contest.

“My passion is fashion, first and foremost. I want the students to feel pride in their appearance. But, I want them to be comfortable too. There is a delicate balance between function and style. I have to catch myself because sometimes I get blinded by the style and then I’m stuck with a pair of pants that don’t bend at the leg,” said Mr. Weston. He may be referring to the bamboo trousers infamously worn by then gubernatorial candidate, Chess Murphy, at the 2016 Cinniapolis Derby. Mr. Murphy was widely ridiculed for his stiff appearance and political insiders believe this led to a failed Governor campaign. Although, Mr. Murphy and Mr. Weston both deny that sentiment.

Mr. Weston chooses to focus on the future than revisit the past. His future includes a seat on stage at the Cinniapolis Prep Uniform Design Showcase this Summer. As the first named finalist, Mr. Weston awaits the announcement of the other two finalists, “It truly is an honor to be involved in this competition. I had so much fun and learned a lot from my experience last year. This time, I hope to be chosen as the lead designer for the class of 2026.”

At this time, all designs submitted are closely guarded. Each of the next two weeks will reveal the other two named finalists. Once all the finalists have accepted their invitations, their designs will be showcased at the Cinniapolis Fashion Week. The winner will be chosen by a panel made up of current residents, Cinni Prep graduates, and the 8th grade valedictorians from St. Boris Elementary and Cinni Elementary. Best of luck to all involved.
