Cinniapolitans can expect a gradual transition into Autumn this year, with temperatures beginning to moderate, daylight hours shortening, and the usual collection of seasonal weather patterns expected to return during the latter portion of the season. Forecasters expect September and October to maintain the recent pattern of warm afternoons, cool evenings, minimal rainfall and several stretches of unseasonably mild weather before colder conditions become more consistent toward the end of November.
The first several weeks of autumn will remain warmer than many residents traditionally associate with the season. Afternoon temperatures could remain comfortable well into October, particularly during periods of high pressure, while overnight temperatures may fall quickly after sunset. Residents who have already begun preparing their homes for winter shouldn’t put away those fans just yet.
Rainfall is expected to remain irregular. Weather officials say this pattern is not unusual, although this year’s rain may once again carry some of the staining characteristics residents noticed during the Spring and Summer. Several homeowners have reported that recent rainfall has left faint residue on windows, vehicles and exterior surfaces. City officials continue to maintain that there is no indication of an immediate public health emergency, while acknowledging that atmospheric sampling remains ongoing.
“We expect autumn to be relatively normal,” Fran Dimple said. “There may be some unusual conditions, but unusual conditions have become increasingly normal.”
Atmospheric activity is also expected to remain elevated through much of the season. Forecasters are watching several persistent pressure patterns that have produced unusual cloud formations, sudden changes in wind direction and occasional low-frequency sounds reported by residents throughout the region. None of these phenomena are currently considered a threat, although officials continue to recommend that residents report anything they believe is unusual.
By late October, the forecast calls for increasingly cool nights, stronger winds and the possibility of the first significant frost in outlying areas. November should bring more persistent cold, although forecasters are not ruling out several warmer-than-normal days before winter settles in. The city is also reminding residents that shorter days mean longer periods of darkness.
“We’re telling people to prepare for fall like they normally would,” the CNPS-TV weather team said. “Check your furnace, clean your gutters, secure outdoor furniture and remain aware of changing weather conditions.”
Autumn in Cinniapolis is expected to be cooler, darker and somewhat quieter than this Summer. Whether it will be more normal remains to be determined.
