It’s Groundhog Day here in Cinniapolis, which means our local representative from the groundhog community, Cinni Cindi, has made her annual appearance outside the Cinniapolis Post Office to reveal if Cinniapolis is in the crosshairs for another six-weeks of Winter or if Spring is just around the corner.
Naturally, there is conflicting information coming out of the sunrise ceremony. CNPS TV reports that Cindi did in fact see her shadow. However, there is a growing mountain of “evidence” on CNPS Stream social media that Cindi has gone blind, rendering her prediction meritless. ”It’s bull (expletive). That animal couldn’t see her own food, I saw the video. How can she predict when Winter ends if she can’t even find her food,” said St. Boris spokesperson, Karen Jefferson. She continued, “This is fraud on all levels, let’s retire Cinni Cindi and get a real groundhog out there, one who can see shadows and food. Everyone needs to wake up and demonstrate so we’re not beholden to a blind animal telling us how our weather will happen. It’s outrageous”
While some take the tradition more serious than others, the official result as reported by the Cinniapolis City Council is that Cinni Cindi did see her shadow, signifying that Cinniapolis has six more weeks of Winter.
Some folks like Ms. Jefferson want a new groundhog. But, others are merely protesting the result. ”I was there. Saw it with my own eyes. Cinni Cindi surveyed the area and pawed at the ground. And, then was quickly shuttled away in its cage. There is zero, I mean, zero evidence this rodent saw its shadow. When are Cinniapolitans gonna wake up? The tyrannical government just wants to cast its shadow over the city by declaring another several weeks of Winter. (Expletive) them. I plan to petition the community and officially protest this result,” said Waldo Penney, local business owner.
Since nowadays, there are three sides to every story – yours, mine, and the truth, we checked in with the source of truth when it comes to the weather, lead meteorologist for CNPS TV, Fran Dimple. ”I can’t weigh in on Cinni Cindi’s ability to forecast the weather. But, I will say the models are favoring an early return to Spring. It’s also important to note the models are not influenced by Cinni Cindi, as CNPS Stream users suggest.”
Whether the weather sticks with Winter or pivots to Spring, the Chorus wishes folks didn’t take Groundhog Day so seriously. The Chorus also wishes everyone a Happy Groundhog Day.
