Yesterday, the Cinniapolis City Council oversaw a snap election regarding referendum 25781 concerning the establishment of Walesburg as an independent township. This morning, the City Council confirmed the rumored results of that vote granting Walesburg secession from Cinniapolis.
“This is an historic moment for Walesburg. Its citizens have been left behind, been dumped on, and unfairly persecuted for all that ails Cinniapolis. Walesburg is no longer the scapegoat. Walesburg from this day forward, charts its own path to success and happiness,” said Chess Murphy, local businessman and leader of the secession movement. “Walesburg will be an example of how to properly govern and respect its citizens and communities. The work begins today to manufacture a prosperous tomorrow,” he said.
When reached for comment, Mayor Gondola acknowledged the results but stopped short of endorsing the secession, “The results were surprising. The data and surveys completed by my administration modeled a close vote but ultimately one that kept Walesburg in Cinniapolis. But, hey, we’ll respect their vote. We plan to exit Cinniapolis assets from Walesburg as soon as possible. While we are saddened by the vote, Cinniapolitans in Reunion and Centralis will be direct benefactors of this result. Many public services and funds were dedicated this struggling community. Those funds have already been recovered and will be reassigned to other areas. The squeaky wheel decided it no longer needed its oil, let’s see how long before the wheel falls off,” said Mr. Gondola, getting in a dig at Walesburg.
Cinniapolitans have grown accustomed to the Gondola-Murphy family rivalry, however it has always played out on a limited scale to business or a political campaign, and to the benefit of Cinniapolitans with improved services. At the surface level, it appears the Murphy’s have decided Cinniapolis is no longer a town big enough for both families. During the secession process funded by the Murphy’s, they largely stayed behind the scenes. But, with the successful vote, the most outspoken Murphy has found the spotlight again, lobbing his familiar criticisms toward Mayor Gondola and his family.
“Far too long, the Murphys have been the backbone of Cinniapolis. Our private enterprises have propelled Cinniapolis forward, in spite of the rampant Gondola nepotism obstructing us at every turn. Now, the Murphy’s will lift up Walesburg with compassionate leadership, advanced services, and thriving communities. It won’t be long before folks in Centralis and Reunion realize the maroons running their government were propped up by the sweat and labor of the Murphy’s,” said Mr. Murphy.
While now outside city limits, the Cinniapolis Chorus is dedicated to reporting news regarding the ongoing transition in Walesburg. Stay tuned to the Chorus for the latest updates and news from the Walesburg secession.
