Lights Out! Cinniapolis Goes Dark

The planned power outages went into effect for the Walesburg and Centralis residential areas yesterday. While moderate temperatures lessened the burden of losing electricity during daylight hours, Cinniapolitans lamented the decision to go forward with this plan. Especially since the postponed annual May Town Hall has yet to be rescheduled. On May 2nd, the City Council announced a rescheduled Town Hall for May 29th, which never happened. The Chorus has emailed, called, and visited City Hall for comment. Thus far, the Government has not provided an update, let alone a comment on this developing situation.

Meanwhile, the planned power outages went ahead yesterday with Walesburg and Centralis “non-essential” properties losing their electricity from 9:00AM to 8:00PM. “I’ve lost my ability to work remotely this summer. I really have no choice if I want to keep my job. Living in an apartment, I don’t have the option to run a generator to power my laptop. It’s really a thoughtless policy. It’s no surprise the town hall has been postponed indefinitely,” said Newton Nutt.

Others focused on the absence of Cinniapolis’ wealthiest neighborhood and residents being exempt from this legislation, “What’s so good about Reunion? Why are they exempt? Oh wait, it’s because they are rich and are constantly lobbying with their checkbooks for favorable treatment,” said Kris Voper, local property owner. “I will lose tenants to Reunion, without a doubt. It’s already started. My June lease renewals were down 18% to last year. It’s the first year I’ve lost tenants since 2009. Meanwhile, new apartments in Reunion have waiting lists. Oh, they have electricity too.”

The sentiments shared here are representative of the majority of Walesburg and Centralis residents to whom we spoke. The absent City Council has not commented to the Chorus in several weeks nor have they publicly met in this time. Meanwhile, Cinniapolitans have been left to sweat out the Summer in the dark.
