In August of 2023, Mayor Gondola announced another measure to combat climate change. He unveiled a plan to lessen electricity usage across the city through planned blackouts in the Walesburg and Centralis residential areas. The initial schedule and locations have been leaked to the Chorus.
The blackouts are planned to begin on Monday, June 3rd. The initial announcement said the blackouts would be during periods of minimal electricity usage easing the burden on residents. However, the leaked schedule tells a contradicting story compared to the original August ’23 statements from Mayor Gondola and Grover Electric. We received the below document from an anonymous source, claiming to have intricate knowledge of the administration’s plans:
From the Office of Mayor Preston Gondola
Memo: Electricity Mitigation, Summer 2024
Purpose: Survey constituents on proposed schedule
Additional Information: Please share this schedule with your regional leaders and survey the overall ‘temperature’ regarding the plan. It is cognizant of businesses, education, and healthcare needs. This plan has the appropriate level of support within the Council.
Planned Electricity Savings Schedule:
Reunion Neighborhood – Exempt
Centralis Neighborhood – business, education, healthcare facilities are exempt; residential and any non-essential properties will not receive electricity during the hours of 9:00 AM through 8:00 PM.
Walesburg Neighborhood – healthcare facilities are exempt; residential and any non-essential properties will not receive electricity during the hours of 9:00 AM through 8:00 PM.
Please be prepared to present your approvals or concerns before the annual May Town Hall where residents are encouraged to attend and participate in dialogue concerning Cinniapolis.
The main takeaways at first glance appear to eliminate working from home, unless one’s job does not require electricity. The Reunion neighborhood is not included in any planned blackouts. The original rumors had outages being planned for the overnight hours, however that appears to have been tabled in favor of daytime outages.
These are just a few initial reactions. The Mayor’s office declined to comment on the leaked schedule other than verifying its authenticity. More to come as this story continues to develop.
