Dolly is here to advise the Cinniapolis community and answer any questions with grace and honesty. Here is today’s question:
Q: Dear Dolly, I would like to introduce myself to you as the Karaoke King. I am the self-proclaimed, undisputed King of Cinniapolis karaoke. I can sing opera, pop, folk, rock, soft rock, disco, ballads, country, R & B, you get the point. I’m fluent in many of the world’s most popular languages making me the star of karaoke bars all over the world. I can nail the notes of any era, bygone or current. Did I mention I have the most fluent stage moves to back up my velvety pipes? I’m telling you, I’m telling Cinniapolis, I’ve got the goods to get a standing ovation at any karaoke night anywhere in the world. But, it’s not enough to only inform your readers and you, Dolly, the world needs to know. Dolly, what is the best way to shine a light on my gift for the world to see?
Sincerely, Karaoke King
A: Dear Karaoke King, wow, what an introduction. Personally, I stay away from karaoke nights. I hate to say no and I find myself repeating the word “no” almost exclusively attending past karaoke nights. I’ve uttered phrases such as, “No, I don’t want to sing Shakira. No, I don’t want to sing Black Eyed Peas. No, I don’t want to sing Tony Orlando. No, I…”, well, you get the point. But, this is about your gift to the world. There are many avenues to distribute your performances to the world. Choose from a few of the local establishments that livestream karaoke performances to viewers at home. Also, if there’s one thing I’ve learned over the years, nobody likes to sing alone. Try developing a following on social media by posting clips of your talent. Schedule sing-a-longs or live stream performances from your home to connect with your fans. But, my humble advice would be to let others call you the “king” and minimize the self-promotion. History tells us that selfish kings often experience painful falls from grace. History also tells us anyone thinking he or she is a star from singing karaoke is usually wrong.
Sincerely, Dolly
