Protest Against Video Game Violence Breaks Out in Violence

Activists arrived to Thick Pickins electronic department yesterday evening to allegedly shame and protest video game purchasers who were buying games with violent content. The group of 10 activists stood in the video game aisle and attempted to physically block consumers from the games they intended to purchase. Some folks simply walked away saying they’ll purchase their games at a local boutique video game shop, while others confronted the activists about their intrusive methods, leading to a brief scrum around the video game displays.

Around 5:30 P.M. local time yesterday, 10 activists set themselves in front of the Thick Pickins video game shelves and shouted down anyone attempting to purchase games that may contain violence. For any one that grew up with video games, we can all attest that there is some level of violence in most games. An unnamed activist told store security, “Violence has no place in our society and these capitalist pigs are packaging and selling violence to our youth, promoting criminal and abhorrent behavior.”

A team of store security asked the group to simply move out of the way when consumers are shopping the video game shelves. The activists refused and grew louder in their harassment of consumers and employees, yelling “violence peddler” at passing by employees and “violence addict” at video game shoppers.

One such incident led to a brief fracas before the activists scurried out of the store. The Chorus obtained a copy of the incident report from Thick Pickins. The report states the activists were yelling at a couple teens, accompanied by a parent. When the parent stepped in front of his children to confront an activist, the activist threw an open hand slap that glanced off the side of the parent’s head. The teenagers and parent then attempted to detain the slapping activist but the other activists pulled the slapper away and fled the store.

When reached for comment, Thick Pickins General Manager Shaquille Aston said, “We are working with CSD to find these criminals and we’re relieved to report nobody was hurt in the incident. As a note to future activists, your message may be better received if you don’t engage in the very behavior that is being protested. But, these were not activists, they were hoodlums. You all keep away from our store and shoppers!”
