City Manager Wellington Stepping Down

The Chorus has learned Justine Wellington has resigned as City Manager. Details are still scarce around the exact reason but sources indicate Ms. Wellington and Mayor Gondola butted heads frequently prior to this past February’s special election and were not on speaking terms after the election won by Mayor Gondola.

While the Mayor often touted Ms. Wellington’s progressive agenda, he rarely pursued any meaningful legislation in support of Ms. Wellington’s proposed policies. They appeared to have a cordial working public relationship throughout her 5+ years as City Manager. But privately, Ms. Wellington asserted Mayor Gondola was all talk and no walk when it came to her aggressive climate-focused plans.

Ms. Wellington could not be reached for comment. However, sources close to her said she will pursue private business interests to promote her progressive stance, after an appropriate amount of time decompressing from her role as City Manager.

Mayor Gondola issued a statement to the Chorus, “I accepted Ms. Wellington’s resignation letter this morning. First, I want to thank Justine for her 5 years of service as the Cinniapolis City Manager. She led our city through the pandemic, followed by a social renaissance of humanity standing up to abusive authorities. She strived for positive change everywhere. The City Council will miss her. I wish her the best of luck in her next endeavors.”

Mayor Gondola will nominate new City Manager candidates who are then interviewed by the City Council. After the interviews, the 10-member Council votes for their choice with the Mayor holding a tie-breaker vote.
