Cinniapolis Prep sits atop the preseason high school baseball rankings. But that ranking could be in jeopardy with this morning’s news that Senior Captain, Barry Linsington, will skip his Senior baseball season to begin training for the upcoming college football season.
Mr. Linsington committed to a full scholarship a few weeks ago to play football at Cinniapolis State. However, sources familiar with his NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) deal say he was required to attend Spring practices and skip other “voluntary” athletic activities. While others say he’s skipping the season because he can’t satisfy the academic requirements to participate in extracurricular activities. Mr. Linsington missed multiple football and basketball games this past year for academic violations.
While the entire NIL agreement is unknown, Mr. Linsington has posted sponsored videos of his weight lifting and sneaker shopping. Mr. Linsington denied to comment on our story. But, he did release a video this morning confirming the news.
“Good morning y’all. I’ll be real quick addressing the rumors and haters regarding the upcoming Cinni Prep baseball season. In order to prepare for the next step in my athletic career, I’ve decided to sit out this season to start training for the upcoming football season. It was a difficult decision that included input from my family, friends, and coaches. Ultimately, the risk of playing baseball is too great to sacrifice my future in football. Please respect my decision and be supportive. I wish my teammates and coaches nothing but success for this season. Have a blessed day.”
