Mayor Gondola was re-elected to serve as the Mayor of Cinniapolis until the next scheduled election in November 2028. If we’re to take his victorious comments at face value, the likelihood of another special election is slim. “Sometimes you have to go out and prove what is already known. I am the best choice to lead Cinniapolis into the future. The city has spoken and I intend to serve my constituents with the same passion and enthusiasm I’ve brought to this office since I was sworn in. The days of whining for special elections to our press and people are over. One of my first tasks in this new term will be to make special elections illegal. The past several weeks of campaigning has put this city’s government and businesses behind the 8-ball. We’ll have to work very hard to make up for lost time. And, I intend to lead by example”
The votes had all been counted by this morning’s sunrise and Mayor Gondola was declared the winner, securing 48% of the vote. City Manager Justine Wellington, surprisingly, finished second with 45% of the vote, followed by Oliver Roseman getting 6% of the vote, with the final 1% of voters choosing Waldo Penney or Arn Murphy.
While the final polls predicted a close three person race between Mayor Gondola, Mr. Roseman, and Ms. Wellington, it seems Mr. Roseman’s injuries were a major deterrent for voters. Several voters interviewed on voting day admitted they could not vote for a candidate that might not live to see his first day in office. Analysts suggested Mr. Roseman’s votes were likely split between Mayor Gondola and Ms. Wellington.
Perhaps, the most shocking developments were the final tally of votes for Ms. Wellington and Arn Murphy. Ms. Wellington has been cast as an outsider to Cinniapolis and was given no chance to win the election. However, political analysts noticed the public began to see Ms. Wellington in a favorable light after her tough stance on crime became a running theme of her campaign. Mr. Murphy, on the other hand, did himself no favors in this election. He started this race as the most likely to unseat Mayor Gondola due to the Murphy family’s influence and finances. But, his lack of public appearances and overall general disinterest in the campaign alienated his voting base and likely pushed them to Ms. Wellington, according to analysts.
Waldo Penney, the loudest candidate, said his poor performance won’t slow him down one bit in his crusade against Mayor Gondola. “He did it again. I don’t know how but he won another election. Which just means we are not fighting hard enough. The watchdogs will be alert and ready to pounce. The battle for Cinniapolis is just starting, and losing an election is not the end of our historic movement.”
