Mayoral Candidate Profile: Preston Gondola

The current Mayor, Preston Gondola, is seeking re-election for a third term as the Mayor of Cinniapolis. Mayor Gondola served nearly three decades as a City Councilman. His father, Van Gondola, was mayor for 64 years. Mayor Gondola was appointed by his father and the City Council to Mayor in 2015. Mayor Gondola then won re-election in 2016 and 2020. His approval rating is currently at 14% compared to 57% when he took office.

Mayor Gondola has the most experience governing Cinniapolis. He is the most qualified candidate having served on the City Council and as the Mayor for a combined 35 years. He has never lost an election. This will be his greatest challenge yet, if the early polls are to be trusted. In a Cinni State poll of 10,000 registered voters, less than 10% said they would vote for Mayor Gondola in the upcoming election. Mayor Gondola recently said, “Polls are not votes. Historically, polls have been unreliable in predicting the outcome of elections. But, it’s a sign that I need to work harder to reach those voters who are on the fence or think another candidate can replace nearly 40 years of government experience.”

Mayor Gondola acknowledged the rivalry with the Murphy family, “It’s something that’s been brewing for several years now. The Murphys like to grandstand, publicly denigrating my family and my government. But, behind closed doors they carry a different tune. I’ve found our private interactions to be very cordial and non-confrontational. I welcome their challenges and competition.”

The special election voting takes place on February 28th. Due to the unprecedented circumstances, all votes must be submitted in person at each citizen’s local voting facility. There will be no vote-by-mail or early voting options.
