City Manager Justine Wellington is a two-time Mayoral candidate, having lost the 2016 election. However, she successfully won election in 2020 to become the first female City Manager in Cinniapolis history. Prior to becoming the City Manager, Ms. Wellington served on the City Council from 2004-2016. Ms. Wellington is often identified as the source of some of Mayor Gondola’s more “extreme” policies. She is wildly unpopular with lifelong Cinniapolitans due to her “foreign” education at Southeast Tech.
Ms. Wellington’s career in politics started in 2003 as an aide to the City Council. She was successfully elected to City Council in 2004. Despite her out-of-town degree, she has shown remarkable staying power and poise in the face of growing personal attacks on her character as a result of her progressive policies, such as the Red Meat Reduction bill that was narrowly rejected by City Council. Lifelong Cinniapolitans fear her agenda, “She is very dangerous. She literally wants to take food out of our mouths. It’s not like we’re cannibals eating one another, or eating horses, dogs, and cats. We are a hard-working people that enjoy eating a variety of traditional meats,” said a resident who wished to remain anonymous.
Ms. Wellington also has no reservations about challenging her boss, Mayor Gondola, “I think he is a fine Mayor. We have worked closely over the past 2+ years. I enjoy his approach to governing but I am confident I can do better for Cinniapolis. I have the courage to stand up to tradition. But, more importantly, I own a voice that’s never been heard in Cinniapolis,” she said, referencing the lack of a female Mayor in the long history of Cinniapolis.
The special election voting takes place on February 28th. Due to the unprecedented circumstances, all votes must be submitted in person at each citizen’s local voting facility. There will be no vote-by-mail or early voting options.
