Elf Ears Trending for the Holiday Season, or Any Season

As elective cosmetic procedures return to normalcy after the pandemic hiatus, the operations are becoming a bit more abnormal. From replacing human teeth with animal teeth to changing one’s racial appearance, Cinniapolis surgeons have no shortage of work orders from their patients. Recently, elf ears have become a popular choice among the ever-changing whims of young Cinniapolitans.

This procedure involves re-shaping the patient’s ear to have a sharper point at the top of the ear, mimicking an elven shape. In the past, individuals have sought cosmetic surgery to round out their natural pointy ears, now the pendulum has swung to wanting elf ears. Whether one is inspired by fantasy, movies, or Christmas, elf ears are more popular than ever.

Otoplasty is a safe procedure with a low percentage of complications during or after the procedure. But, it is also a very intricate operation where a millimeter error can alter the finished ear. Dr. Sherman Fielgüt, owner and Chief Surgeon of Elevate Cosmetic Center, encourages cosmetic procedures for patients struggling with their body images, “This is a routine procedure. The patient may have some sore ears and be uncomfortable for a short time after. But, then they are living their life at their top physical form,” he said.

Lifelong resident and third generation Cinniapolitan, Darma Kirchoff, elected to have this procedure done earlier this Fall, “I’ve always been fascinated by the mystique and magical powers of elves. Since my ear-pointing operation, I’ve had more confidence and improved hearing,” said Ms. Kirchoff. “I wore prosthetic molds for several weeks prior to my surgery to get used to the look and feel of a newly shaped ear. Needless to say, I was quite happy with their look and feel. Dr. Fielgüt was available and attentive to my concerns and needs throughout the process,” she said.

Dr. Fielgüt now mandates all his potential pointy-eared clients to wear prosthetic ear points for at least 6 weeks prior to the surgery, “This helps a patient get used to the new shape but also gauge their family and friends reaction to their new look. While it’s a minor procedure, it is a big change. I like to compare it to test driving a car before buying. You’ll want to experience these new ears before making this big decision,” he said.

A local, who wished to remain unnamed, did not have the pleasant experience shared by most patients, “Well, when I got the procedure, the molds weren’t a part of the process. So, I went fully in on elf ears without getting a feel for the appearance and I fully regret it. My glasses didn’t fit on my ears afterwards. Custom frames cost me nearly as much as the ear surgery. Now, because of the angle my frames sit on my nose, there is more pressure on the bridge of my nose and it’s slowly caving in,” said the anonymous Cinniapolitan, “Everyone should be aware that this is a non-reversible decision.”

Elevate Cosmetic Center reported their patient list for the elf ear otoplasties has grown 117% over the past 2 years, proving the demand is high for ears that point to the sky. One can only wonder what way will Cinniapolitans transform their bodies in 2023 and beyond.
