Two weeks ago, Russ Wahl was shot to death by ordinary citizens organized and chaperoned by Holy Sheriff Legion (HSL) agents. Read that sentence again. A Cinniapolitan was shot to death by fellow Cinniapolitans. Where is the outrage? It seems as if police brutality is becoming mainstream again. Not only is it mainstream, but it is being outsourced to regular, everyday people. Is this the future of Cinniapolis? I, for one, sure hope not. There was a time not too long ago when law enforcement actually enforced laws and protected the public. Lately, it’s as if the public is protecting law enforcement.
I can’t think of any other cities in our country that would hand over law enforcement to ordinary citizens. Mr. Wahl was no angel, that’s for sure. He disrespected his body and turned himself into a human-animal hybrid. I’m not here to say if he was right or wrong. I’m here to say as fellow humans and Cinniapolitans, we short-changed Mr. Wahl. Instead of appealing to his human instincts and judgment, we reacted to his animal behavior, for which he likely had no control over.
When the Cinniapolis Safety Department (CSD) was introduced, it was intended to be a social contract of community cooperation between law enforcement and Cinniapolitans. The goal was to reallocate resources ear-marked for police weaponry into communities to uplift citizens away from criminal activity. Well, where were the resources for Mr. Wahl? How come he didn’t benefit from the non-lethal means of detaining alleged criminals?
Shortly after the CSD was rolled out, the goons from HSL were quickly incorporated into law enforcement activities under the guise of “partnership” between Cinniapolis law enforcement and its citizens. It’s what hindsight would categorize as an empty gesture towards the community. Before the Chorus Investigative Team (CCIT) revealed the contract between the HSL and the Cinniapolis government, HSL agents were conducting traffic stops and evictions. Many of the same faces dismissed from the exiled police department (CPD) due to abuse of power were back in the saddle again, harassing citizens and confiscating their belongings. So much for trusting government to do the right thing.
Cinniapolis is becoming a scary place to live. It seems as if the rising crime doesn’t get ya, then law enforcement will get ya. Mr. Wahl deserved humane treatment. His motivations were questionable, at best. Plus, his brain was clearly not equipped to handle his biological changes. And for that, we owed him our compassion and a chance at rehabilitation. Instead, our law enforcement signed up amateurs, labeled Mr. Wahl as an enemy, and shot him to death. The Cinniapolis law enforcement names, uniforms, and logos have changed, but it’s still the same ol’ police brutality. However, now it’s doled out by untrained, blood-thirsty citizens instead of sworn officers of the law.
