Dear Dolly: Middling Moderate

Dolly is here to advise the Cinniapolis community and answer any questions with grace and honesty. Here is today’s question:

Q: Dear Dolly, with all this talk about meat regulation, climate ending the world, and never-ending bickering between political opponents, what’s the best way to block out all this noise? Or is it best to turn up the volume and fully lean in to the current state of Cinniapolis affairs?

Sincerely, Middling Moderate

Dolly: Dear Middling Moderate, these are certainly interesting times when everything and nothing is believable, all at once. There is an overload of data and access to opinions. What’s missing from society these days is the ability to comprehend the difference between facts and opinions disguised as facts. From my perspective, it’s best for you to keep your current mindset and stay a middling moderate. Don’t block out the noise. Burying your head in the sand will only allow you to get stepped on. But, don’t blast the noise at full volume either, lest you may lose your mind. Spend your time evenly with news that disagrees with you and news that agrees with you. You’ll find having both sides of a story allows you to coddle the snowflakes but also coddle the overgrown toddlers, depending on who is standing around the water cooler that day. An alternative avenue of thought is if you can discern fact from opinion, then feel free to lean in to the politics of the day. It can be quite entertaining and scary. But, if you’re regularly referred to as a jackass in your daily life, then best to block out the political noise and keep doing harmless jackass things.

Sincerely, Dolly
